To control accidents involving dangerous substances is one of the statutory duties of the fire brigade in the Netherlands. This also includes responding to accidents involving radioactive materials (ADR Class 7). This does not occur very often therefore many fire organizations have little knowledge about how to handle these incidents. Our radiation specialists have extensive practical experience with radioactive materials, with accidents involving hazardous substances and in the provision of fire service education. They have provided training for various fire brigades in accidents involving radioactive materials. These courses are designed for commanders and officers of Service. Beside these courses, they are frequently involved in advanced training for Consultants Hazardous Substances within the fire department. These consultants have been trained as level 5B radiation experts and this needs to be updated on a regular base which we can provide for.
